RTO Marketing Guidelines: A Compliance Checklist for RTO Managers

During an ASQA audit, marketing practices and student recruitment are the most common sources for non-compliance.

RTOs must ensure that their marketing and recruitment policies are compliant with the Standards for RTOs 2015. This includes providing accurate and accessible information about their services and qualifications to potential learners. To ensure your RTO compliance, you should review the marketing materials and documents against a checklist of critical guidelines outlined in Standard 4 – Marketing & Recruitment.

This includes ensuring that all advertising is factual, not misleading or deceptive, and does not contain any false or exaggerated claims. Additionally, RTOs should make sure that they provide clear information on fees, refunds, and complaints procedures as well as any other relevant information that may be required by law.

By following these guidelines, RTOs can ensure that they are providing potential learners with the necessary information to make an informed decision when choosing which training provider is best suited for them.

Clause 4.1 of the most recent Standards for RTOs 2015 details the fundamental needs for marketing and recruitment in Standard 4.

This clause obligates RTOs to provide accurate and accessible information concerning their services and certifications to learners. This pledge secures that apprentices can make wise decisions when electing the right RTO for the training they are seeking.

1. Include your RTO code in all marketing materials

2. Properly use the Nationally Recognised Training label

3. Display the correct course code and full title on every training product marketing medium

4. Avoid false promises

5. Create a Marketing Policy, or Plan a Review Process

6. Other General Marketing Guidelines for RTO Compliance

ASQA is now more stringent than ever when it comes to reprimanding RTOs and it is common for them to mete out repercussions to those RTOs, not in keeping with the latest National Standards. If any non-conformity is spotted, ASQA may opt to initiate a comprehensive audit of your RTO, put restrictions and penalties into effect, or temporarily suspend trading with your RTO until promotional policies, materials, and enrolment procedures abide by the standards.

Having your RTO routinely evaluate its marketing practices can help ensure that any non-compliances  are quickly handled before ASQA discovers them.
